Nature-inspired New Year's #3

osstewardship

Next up in our series of #NewYearsResolutions inspired by local habitats-

Emulate the grasslands and be as open as possible!

Grasslands once covered much more of the Okanagan than they do now. They are greatly affected by forest encroachment, which is when trees start creeping into the edges of grasslands from forested areas. Historically, regular wildfires kept these 'baby' trees from taking hold in grassy areas but centuries of fire suppression has let them thrive and grow to extend the forests far past where they used to stop. This year, check in with yourself and see if you might have some mental trees. Reduce the amount of 'trees' you have to keep your mind as open as our grasslands!
